Teams Find Success in 2012 Science Bowl
Big Sandy's first trip to the state's Science Bowl competition held in Billings, Montana February 3rd and 4th was a fun experience for two teams. The senior high team comprised of seniors Adam Quinn, Dallas Briese, Justin Stevens, and juniors Brantly Rutledge and Kristopher Stiles enjoyed the challenge of competing in such a rigorous contest with 25 other high school teams . Our students answered questions in less than five seconds that tested their highest level thinking skills in math and science. The High School competed against Helena High, Conrad, Billings Central, Billings West, Billings Skyview, West Yellowstone, and Havre. Coaches Alisha Burcham, Cindy Pokorny, and Bob Quinn along with several parents and a grandparent couldn't have been prouder to see the team continue to advance 8 rounds in the competition. They finished 5th out of a total of 26 schools.
The junior high team members that included eighth graders Madison Reichelt, Eric Schwarzbach, Zach Works, Cheyenne Pegar, and Mariah Sheehy also advanced a total of 8 rounds to earn 5th place out of 16 teams present. The junior high competed with schools Glasgow, Columbus, Billings North Middle school, Will James Billings, and Absorkee multiple times in the double elimination contest.
Some schools Big Sandy competed with were up to 25 times Big Sandy's enrollment to show they could compete with the best science students around the state. Congratulations teams for representing Big Sandy so well.
