Pioneer Families- This Friday is our next Distance Learning Day, which is an important part of our educational program that counts as a half day of instruction. Whether your child is learning letter sounds in kindergarten or completing advanced coursework in high school, these days are thoughtfully designed to support learning at every age and stage. Our teachers have designed learning activities that students can complete at their own pace throughout the day or weekend. This flexibility not only allows families to create schedules that work best for them but also gives students real-world practice in managing their time and solving problems independently. Remember students who signed up earlier this week will receive their meals as planned this afternoon before they leave for the day. Staff will be available to support students who need assistance. We're committed to making these learning experiences valuable and engaging, as they represent an important bridge between traditional classroom learning and the independent, tech-savvy problem solving our students will need in their futures.

Attention Parents of Students in Grades 3-8! Your child is bringing home an envelope today with their MAST test results. MAST is the new state wide testing system that students will do 3 times this year. Below is some more information, feel free to call me with any questions. Big Sandy Public Schools December 2024 Dear Parent/Guardian: Montana students will take the Montana Aligned to Standards Through-Year (MAST) assessment in mathematics and reading/language arts in the 2024-2025 school year. This assessment is Montana’s measure of student proficiency on the state content standards in grades 3-8. These standards establish goals for what all students should know and be able to do in each grade. This assessment includes math and reading/language arts testlets that have items that reflect a range of difficulty levels to demonstrate critical thinking and problem solving skills. Testlets include multiple choice, matching, ordering, short text entry, technology-enhanced, and an ELA constructed writing response test items. Score reports in individual testlets are available throughout each testing window as they are completed and generated. This through-year assessment provides critical information about student learning, but no single assessment should ever be the sole factor in making an educational decision. It is important to remember that assessments provide only one measure of student learning, but when combined with grades, classroom activities, unit quizzes and tests, and district-level assessments, the results of statewide assessments can help provide a complete picture of your child’s abilities over the course of the school year and path toward academic success on these content standards. To find resources to aid in interpreting your child’s report, please visit the Parent Resources section of the MAST Portal website. The MAST Student Score Report Interpretive Guidance document directly supports understanding and using student level testlet reports. Here are some highlights for this student report: Students receive separate testlet scores for each math and reading/language arts testlet. Information is provided at the standard and question level to better understand student performance. Math testlet reports include misconceptions students are demonstrating through response patterns, while ELA testlets include information on clustered topics of standards. Students will receive a separate summative score for math and reading/language arts in the fall of 2025. Heather Wolery, Principal (406) 378-2502
